Message to Len Pearman (entry 153)
Hi Len, doubt if you remember me, I was in 1st troop at the time. looks like we were the only 2 there as I've seen no mention of our regiment at all.
A great posting, and a great city......I'd love to go back and see what it's like now. |

Hi Rod,
You must have been ahead of me.Our C.O.was a Captain Billborough.Could be your man promoted after you left.
We finished demolishing the Zoo Bunker after closing down "Operation Wodpecke"r in the Harz Mountains.
Remember the M.P.s at the gate.Didn't give us much trouble as they used our N.A.A.F.I. |

Allan Best. The name "Freddie" doesn't ring a bell, But the CO was Robert Obbard, and the 2I/C was Tim Blackberry (or perhaps Blackborough). I remember that there was a military police detachment at the entrance to Smuts, and, of course, some of Hitler's henchmen were in residence over the wall in our neighbouring Spandau Prison. |

I was with the 338 Construction Squadron in Berlin from January until the blockade started. I remember the Russian fighter colliding with the British plane, and taking some trucks through the Russian zone to collect some gas used to burn boreholes for explosives in the flak tower which was demolished after I left. |

Hello
My Dad was stationed at Wavell Barracks between 1975 - 1977 with 3rd Battalion Royal Green Jackets.
We lived at 4/11 Wazelstrasse (spelling is dubious!) in Spandau and I remember my dad taking me through Checkpoint Charlie etc.
They were good times, I remember attending school in Wavell Barracks, I was 5 in 1975 but I do remember quite a lot from my time in Berlin. |
