To all western forces:
Anyone have any pics or stories to tell of crossing the Havel on the Heavy Ferry operated by the British Army RE's.
I seem to remember we moved most of the Berlin Brigade and allied equipment during exercises!
I have a few pics myself but think this is not a well covered part of the duties carried out by the RE's and was considering it as a subject for a painting or two.(Yes an official painting is held by CRE and was there when it was created)

Dave Powell I have just read your Berlin Blog which is fantastic. Your nickname wouldn't be Fang by any chance? Would love to hear from you and Denise. Berlin was a great place, a lot of great people and a lovely place. Hope you see this and get in touch. Anne Mowat Nee ONSLOW |

Served with the RE's in Berlin (78-80) alongside 2 Para, Welsh Guards, Anglian's and our co-located tankie mates at the Smuts, the Scot Dragoons. Memories of many more long standing units and long-weekends lost in the heart of down-town Berlin! I still favour the time when I made the groundsmen move the polo goal post sockets because the pitch wasn't square! Not the German's favourite surveyor that day!
What a start for an 18yr old Sapper! |

Hey Gelbke... Don't know if you remember me. I worked C Flight for a while, JDET, and was in training toward the end of my tour with Olaf Daebel. |
