Was at Olympic Stadium 78 - 80 in G Int & Sy. Best posting of Army career even beating Hong Kong where I went next - going from one place where refugees from Communism where given assistance to a place where they thrown back! Also best boss in Maj Michael Craster. Recall Kevin Langham the unit photographer being nominated for BEM for his skill. Other names recalled are Clive Mercer, Angie and Rod Kennet. My daughter was born in BMH there and we are returning in June for wedding anniversary.

A great site. West Berlin was a fascinating city that I visited several times during my family's time in Frankfurt a. Main (1979-81). My Scout troop went on the duty train, I bought a Red Army belt buckle from the guard at Checkpoitn Alpha and was in Berlin two weeks after the wall went down (~22 Nov 89) and sat on the wall one night with feet in the West and East (fortunately, didn't get shot at by the Vopos!).

Wow nice site. I was there from 78-83 it was a strange deal,I spent my whole career in the Calvary except for those few years, i was going to the 11th cav but was rerouted to Berlin instead. It was the best time i ever had. Now when I go to the football games at Texas A@M with my family, i see a part of the old wall and get chills from all the grate memories.even tear up sometimes

I was in Berlin from 1970-72, and left Berlin on the British Military Train Upon stopping there was a Russian guard right outside my window. I had always wanted a Russian cap-badge so showed the guard a pile of Playboy magazines and pointed to his badge. He nodded and the deal was done, alas not quickly enough, we were spotted by a Russian lieutenant who steamed up to the guard and started to slap him round the face. I'll alway remember the look in his eyes as the train moved off!!!

All I can remember is that on cold dark nights on border patrol the Russians had warm, centrally-heated, all-mod-cons observation towers and all we had was a couple of six-inch nails hammered into a tree!!!!!!!!!!!!
