Thanks for sharing Dave. Good to read a British point of view.
You are surely not forgotten by the Westberliners.

question
I'm a scriptwriter who'd love to hear from people posted in Berlin around 1961 when the wall went up. In particular I'd love to speak to someone patrolling the Eiskeller region in Spandau.

I visited Berlin during Easter 1976 & 77 with a group of PE students from Leeds. Our Lecturer Don Curry organised the trip each Easter and we always stayed at Smuts Barracks. We played about six games of football against University sides, the Combined Services, a semi-pro team and, of course, our hosts the Inniskilen and Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. What a city, great memories of our guided tour of East Berlin, Treptow Park, Dom Cathedral, Checkpoint Charlie etc. Thank you for looking after us.

Hi Jayne and Nick,
I found this site by accident looking for info on Berlin and have enjoyed reading past entries. Do you recall the aggro that Clive Mercer had with the RSM over using a Union Jack as a bedspread ('an insult to the Crown') so Clive replaced it with a large DDR flag! Whatever happened to him? Other names are Kenny Main, Sheena McKimm, Hugh Brogan, Mark and Anne Westbrook and the Sector Chief Clerk Colin Auger as well as Mick O'Hare. Good people in a great place.
