Served in Berlin 87-89, best part of my career. Excellent night life and believe it or not i actually enjoyed Spandau Prison Guard. The old Rocking Horse call out on a saturay night kept us on our toes.Berlin at the time i would say was the pinicale of any young soldiers career. Greatest ever posting i've had to date.

Hello
I was with the PWO at Brook Bks for '84-85 till we were posted to Ulster. What a great first posting for a 17 year old. Fond memorys of been pissed up in summit house, Cold exersizes in Rubhlen fighting city, and stuffing my face with "Halb henchen Bitte!!!".

Its a shame that the was second posting was a bag of worms :P

I served in Berlin, Alexander Barracks from 1986 until 1990.
up to then, I'd always thought of Hong Kong as my best posting, but Berlin beat it hands down. During our stay there, Rudolf Hess died, and the Wall came down.

Exercise 'Bear Defender', March and Shoot competition, Raft Race, sailing and canoe clubs, Berlin Brigade SAAM, trips on the BMT, the RE power boat course, the great people, city and atmosphere. Memories!!

Great site, well done.

By the way,

RMP ran Operation Rocking Horse,
I remember one fateful night. Our vehicles had been equiped with new sirens. it was our duty to drive around the married Q's and announce OperationRocking Horse. A sad unlucky few amongst the Berlin Civilian population heard the new sirens and thought it was for real. five civilians committed suicide that night.

Hello to everyone, who like myself, had the fortunate opportunity to live in Berlin. My dad served there from 1981~1983. I went to The Havel school and enjoyed Smuts youth club or hanging out at the spider park, lol. Loved Wesley House and the tuna rolls! Went back twice as an adult with my husband, to reminisce, and it was brilliant. Lived in flats at Elsflether Weg and worked in the summer at Edinburgh House. Lovely memories especially the Octoberfest and the sights and smells. xox
